Turkey sends humanitarian aid to Arakan State
Sangkhlaburi (Mizzima) – Humanitarian aid from Turkey arrived in Burma last week for victims of sectarian violence in Rakhine State.

The relief supplies carried by two Turkish planes were unloaded at Rangoon International Airport, and then sent to Sittwe in Myanmar Airlines on chartered flights.
The relief supplies, weighing 30 tonnes, included 2,280 boxes of candy, 960 packages of instant ration, 11,000 bags of biscuits, 500 boxes of slippers, 1,000 bales of clothes, 1,000 items of stationary and 500 boxes of toys.
“Burma has not forbidden international societies from providing aid [to the victims.] It is humanitarian aid. We told them that what we presently need are food and medicine, and they can provide them,” Zaw Htay told Mizzima.
Turkey is a member country of Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). Presently, the Secretary General of OIC is a Turkish diplomat. The relief supplies will be handed over to the Arakan State government for distribution.
