“Aso's trip is intended to bolster relations with the rapidly emerging country [Burma] and help Japanese companies make inroads into its expanding economy, and may also include a meeting with Finance and Revenue Minister Win Shein,” Japan Times reported, quoting sources.
On Friday, Aso is reportedly scheduled to visit the Thilawa Special Economic Zone on the outskirts of Rangoon, and to pay tribute at a cemetery where Imperial Japanese soldiers who died during WWII are buried.
Tokyo is due to write off Burma’s debt in January, and will lend Naypyitaw a fresh ¥50 billion (US $600 million) under highly favorable terms in 2013.
Aso’s visit comes as several major Japanese firms gear up for entry into many of Myanmar’s nascent industries.
